A Good Man is Hard to Find
2018
Set of 11 ceramic cups, coffee stains

An autoworker in Detroit walked to work every day for 20 years. His story was publicized, and people around the world raised $300,000 for him in a GoFundMe. He rented a new apartment, and a local newspaper followed him to his new home. The images in “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” are appropriated from this very first photoshoot. In it, the photographer asks him to perform a series of actions that show his gratitude by performing his work ethic for the camera – he cleans his car, washes the dishes, wipes down his new coffee table. This photoshoot was then posted to the newspaper’s website, where readers were invited to purchase these images or place them on commemorative plates and mugs. I purchased a full set of these objects, and then invited people into my studio to watch the video and drink from them.
